Frequently Asked Questions

The list below features our answers to the questions we are asked most often. If you can’t find the information you want, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We are happy to assist you with whatever concerns you may have.

Q: Who pays for this?

January 15, 2018

A: There are several ways to pay for assisted living. However, Medicare is not one of them. The most common one is private pay, and many people have purchased long-term care insurance policies that cover assisted living services.

In addition, many veterans and their spouses are eligible for benefits called the Veterans Aid  benefits that cover assisted living.  Moreover, the Star Plus Medicaid’s waiver program also covers assisted living for those who meet their requirements

Q: Are pets allowed?

February 14, 2018

A: Our team at MOUNT VERNON HOUSE ASSISTED LIVING recognizes the enjoyment and companionship pets provide their owners. We allow residents to keep well-behaved dogs that will not inconvenience or disturb their neighbors.

Q: Do you have space for when my family visits?

March 15, 2018

A: Yes, family and friends are always welcome at MOUNT VERNON HOUSE ASSISTED LIVING. We offer short-term guest suites for visitors.

Q: How is it different from a nursing home?

March 15, 2018

A: Assisted Living is more like living in your home instead of living in a clinical nursing home where more medical care can be provided. Residents in a nursing home require around-the-clock care and monitoring and the assistance of a skilled nurse. By contrast, residents in an assisted living generally require custodial care.

Q: What is assisted living?

March 15, 2018

A: Assisted Living Communities are licensed and regulated by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Residents at assisted living are free to live an independent lifestyle, but also receive regular support for a range of daily activities ranging from cleaning to meal preparation. Housekeeping and maintenance services are included in the monthly rent, along with laundry services, utilities, transportation, and meals.

In addition to enjoying the peace of mind that comes from the maintenance-free lifestyle, residents can take advantage of a full calendar of events, activities, and countless opportunities for social engagement.

MOUNT VERNON HOUSE ASSISTED LIVING has a full-time Registered Nurse and well-trained staff available 24 hours a day to look after our residents’ every need.
